Margaret "Jo" Velardo, PhD

Dr. Jo Velardo has a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from University of Dayton, an A.S. from the Physician Assistant program of the Cuyahoga Community College, a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Pharmacology from University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and a Systems Engineering Certificate from Stevens Institute of Technology. She has served as the Director of the University of Florida Spinal Cord Injury and Regeneration Laboratory and as an Assistant Research Professor of Neuroscience with adjuncts in the Genetics Institute and the Cancer Center. Other career experience includes pharmaceutical and medical device product liability analysis and emergency medical practice. Her homeland security related research focus is on the effects of CBRNE on human health, particularly the neurological, psychological effects; and on short- and long-term environmental effects. Dr. Velardo is a Fellow in the Institute's HSOA Directorate.

Colonel Randall Larsen

Colonel Randall J. Larsen, USAF (Ret), became the executive director of the Congressional Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism in April 2009.  The commission, led by former Senators Bob Graham (D-FL) and Jim Talent (R-MO), issued its final report in January 2010. Senators, Graham, Talent and Col Larsen recently formed the Bipartisan WMD Terrorism Research Center.

Dr. Runge has decades of clinical, research, leadership and administrative experience. In addition to seven years as the head of two government agencies with as many as 1000 employees and contractors under his direction, he brings nearly 30 years of experience as an emergency medicine physician. Until 2001 he practiced and taught in North Carolina’s busiest emergency department and trauma center, while performing research in injury prevention, trauma care, and emergency service delivery.
